A three-storey house the size of a parking space has been valued at £170,000 by one of the region’s biggest estate agents.

Jaspal Dhillon, boss of 'Places Birmingham', said the award-winning ‘Tikku’ house, which has taken up residency in Brindleyplace, would make a fantastic home. 

The house arrived in the city on April 5 to highlight the dependency on cars and the alternatives you can have in their place. Brought from Helsinki by new travel app, 'Whim', in partnership with Helsinki Design Week and Artek, it has attracted more than 5,000 viewings already! Jaspal said:

“Birmingham is already something of a property hot-spot but this house would be one of the most desirable given its clever use of space. The top floor is particularly cool – it brings the outside in with its full glazing and gives unrivalled views of the city.

“Planners take note – we need more clever design and better use of space!”

Taking cars off the streets is top of the agenda for Whim's team, alongside Mayor Andy Street, who backed the initiative. The award-winning app, which dovetails with the Swift travel card, delivers smart travel solutions which enable people to use the right mode of transport for the right journey rather than sticking with one method and being constrained by a single type of travelcard.

National Express, Gett, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, nextbike and other transport providers have already signed up to the scheme with others lined up to get involved. With thousands of studios and one-bed apartments coming onto the market in the West Midlands without access to a parking space, Jaspal said Whim made more sense than ever. He added?

“We have developments of 1,000 flats coming to market with just 100 parking spaces, so increasingly cars are being airbrushed out of the equation.

“There needs to be some real thought about how we want to live in our cities. Birmingham is an incredibly vibrant location and is in high demand. We definitely want more solutions.”

Whim, dubbed the Spotify of the transport world, will offer Midlanders three options including pay as you go, an 'Everyday' plan for £99 per month which includes unlimited public transport with taxis and best-price car hire and an 'Unlimited for £349 per month which includes unlimited public transport, all taxi rides within a three-mile radius of your location and up to 30 days car hire per month.
