The League Of Gentlemen isn't the only comedy returning to the BBC...!

After the joyous news earlier this week, that cult-comedy The League Of Gentlemen is heading back to BBC two, the broadcaster has helped us back to our happy place by announcing brand new Alan Partridge!

Steve Coogan thinks the time is right to reprise his most famous comic character and has confirmed he will play the inept broadcaster once more on the channel, which ran I’m Alan Partridge from 1997-2002. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Steve said:

"Alan will be back on the BBC early next year. In fact, there will be a lot of Alan on TV next year."

Far be it from us to correct a comedy genius, but actually, BBC Two will broadcast a 25th anniversary special before the end of this year, before a new BBC One series in 2018.

The 51-year-old actor admitted he is inspired by current programmes like The One Show, and thinks Alan could have been the perfect host. He said:

"He'll just be back on a show, it might be a bit like this. I'm here to do research. Alan feels he could have invented The One Show and been its main anchor over the years.

"He is in some ways like a real person because when you write him, you feel."

We wonder what current hosts of The One Show, Alex Jones and Matt Baker, think of their fictional competitor?

But the Radio Norwich graveyard shift DJ isn’t the only cult comedy legend who’s resurfacing. It looks like fans of eccentric British comedy have a lot to look forward to next year.

What a treat!
