Age Concern hosts 50th birthday celebration

Everyone is invited to a groovy 70s theme party to help celebrate 50 years of Age Concern Stourbridge and Halesowen.

On Saturday 17 May party animals can ‘Get Down On it’ at the Elton Centre at St Johns, Stourbridge from 2 to 6pm for just £10 per ticket.

The price includes a whole host of 70s themed activities including a buffet, music to boogie to, bingo, time appropriate quiz and arts and crafts for all ages.

Plus, from 4 to 6pm, Elvis will be putting in a special appearance to serenade guests.

Everyone attending the party is encouraged to be into the spirit by donning their flares, platform shoes, mini or maxi skirts, kipper ties and full glam rock outfits.

David Harbach, chair of trustees said: “Reaching the charities golden celebration of 50 years is simply brilliant!

“It is amazing that as early as the 1970s individuals living in this area were already considering the importance of looking after older people.

“The vision may have changed - older people are now more active and see later years as an opportunity to try something new, but the charity remains just as important.

”Fighting isolation and hardship as well as remaining healthy are now key elements for our charity.

“We thought how could be celebrate in an appropriate way and agreed the 70s theme would be ideal.  Those of us who are ‘growing old disgracefully’ can pull out our bell bottom jeans and perhaps even paint on the glam rock makeup.”

Tickets can be purchased directly from the Elton Centre, or by ringing 01384 390 065.  For more information about the event, you can visit ageconcernsh.org.uk.

Anyone who has volunteered or worked for the charity since its conception 50 years ago are invited to attend free of charge as a thank you for their contribution, they simply need to notify the charity that they will be attending to monitor numbers.
