Appeal following fatal collision in Amblecote

Police are appealing for information after a woman has died after being hit by a car on the pedestrian crossing at traffic lights in Amblecote this morning.

The 59-year-old suffered serious injuries after being struck by a silver Vauxhall Insignia on Audnam, at the junction of Brettell Lane, around 7am. Despite the best efforts of emergency services she was confirmed dead at hospital.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into police custody for questioning.

Road closures were in place for investigations to be carried out, however all roads have since reopened. Sgt Alan Hands, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

"A woman has tragically died and our thoughts are with her family and friends. It’s devastating to lose a loved one at anytime, but always feels even more distressing near Christmas.

"We’re working to establish the circumstances leading to this collision and I would urge anyone with information, particularly those with dash cam footage, to come forward."

Anyone with information can contact collision investigators by email, via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or by calling 101, quoting log 482 of 18 December.
