Legendary musical, Miss Saigon, tops the bill at the UK's most visited theatre as staff prepare for a new season of shows
Other shows on offer at the Hurst Street venue include smash hit show, Billy Elliot, the original high-school musical, Grease and the UK tour of Funny Girl, direct from a record-breaking West End run with Sheridan Smith. These sit alongside the Cape Town Opera production of Mandela Trilogy in September and a huge variety of dance productions including an exciting world premiere ballet, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest from Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Other highlights include the return of Bill Kenwright’s much-loved production of Blood Brothers, the popular UK touring production of The Full Monty starring Gary Lucy, world-wide hit musical Million Dollar Quartet starring Jason Donovan and the much-anticipated return of the National Theatre’s internationally-acclaimed production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Fiona Allan, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome said:
“Birmingham Hippodrome has an enviable reputation for the productions it is able to attract from West End musicals through to the best in international ballet and opera and, of course, the UK’s biggest panto.
"Building on this, our new season offers audiences of all ages another varied programme of world-class entertainment combining the best in UK touring productions with an enticing international repertoire."
The theatre is also home to the UK's biggest pantomime, which this year see's Dick Whittington brought to the stage. The show stars leading man John Barrowman alongside Eastender's bad-boy Steve McFadden and West End star, Jodie Prenger. Comedy favourites, The Krankies, Panto Dame, Andrew Ryan and Birmingham favourite, Matt Slack, complete the line up. Speaking at the launch of the show, Jodie said:
"It's the laughter from the kids and the laughter from the families that make the show. We're not doing Chekhov - it's fun! Christmas is a stressful time of year for a lot of families and this is a release.

Dick Whittington starts it's run on Monday 19th December and the cast are treading the boards until January 29th.
