The Willenhall shop of Wolverhampton-based charity Compton Care was targeted by thieves who broke into the Stafford Street store during the night of 26th July, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Staff came into work last week to find that the shop’s shutter doors had been opened with a crowbar and the thieves had ransacked the building, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
It is estimated that up to £3,500 worth of donated goods were stolen, including a flatscreen television and hundreds of brand-new wristwatches which had been recently donated from a local business. Area Manager, Charlotte Harrison said:
“We were shocked and saddened to find the shop in such a state. Thankfully nobody was hurt and we were able to re-open the same day, but the costs incurred in damage repairs and the loss of donated stock will have a significant impact for the charity.”
Compton’s network of shops located across the charity’s catchment area raise in excess of £900,000 each year to help local people living with incurable conditions.
