Police have named a girl who died at the weekend, after being found with knife wounds at a house in Brownhills.
Eight-year-old Mylee Billingham was taken to hospital with stab injuries, but unfortunately nothing could be done to save her life and she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
A post mortem examination is scheduled to take place today to establish the precise cause of death.
A 54-year-old man found with stab injuries at the property on Valley View, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment and is currently in a critical condition. Detective Inspector Jim Colclough from the homicide unit is leading the investigation. He said:
“This is an absolutely tragic set of circumstances and my thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.
“We are still at the early stages of understanding exactly what happened and why - but I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.”
