Cabinet expected to approve environmental policy

Dudley Council’s cabinet is set to review the authority’s new corporate environmental policy when it meets later this month.

Setting out the authority’s commitment to protect and improve the environment, the policy is the first of its kind for Dudley Council.

The policy encompasses all council activities, services and estate, setting out the council’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

The document covers environmental impacts such as pollution to air, land and water; minimising waste; unnecessary use of materials; and water and energy. It also considers social value and sustainable technologies.

The council will use its leadership, influence and regulatory powers to encourage residents, communities, businesses and other organisations to adopt similar environmental standards to improve Dudley’s environment.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader and cabinet member responsible for climate change, said: “Dudley Council is committed to putting the principles of sustainable development into action in everything it does.

“I am sure my colleagues will join me in welcoming this policy, which is being presented to cabinet later this month.

“Dudley Council is playing our part in the fight against climate change, and we have set the ambition to be a net zero council by 2030.

“Working across the local authority, with communities, residents and partners, we will continue to find more ways to reduce waste and work more sustainably.”

People will be able view the policy online at dudley.gov.uk/climate after cabinet has met.
