Stourbridge FC bosses say they are ‘disappointed’ to have to reduce the capacity of their ground for the upcoming Number 9 Derby against Halesowen Town.
The club says it has been in discussion with Dudley Council for several years to repair the boundaries at the ground, blaming the need to reduce numbers on the ‘continued failure [of the council] to carry out their responsibilities’ in line with the existing lease.
Following discussion with structural engineers the capacity of the War Memorial Ground will be reduced from 2,600 to a maximum of 2,035.
A club spokesperson said: “We feel the safety of both sets of supporters is of utmost importance and we have made the decision to reduce the capacity even further based on advice we have received.
“Sadly, the reduced capacity impacts our community, supporters of both clubs and a significant financial impact on us amounting to several thousands of pounds over the season.”
The allocations for the game will be 1,585 seats to the home side and 450 for Halesowen Town fans.
The spokesperson added: “We hope that everyone who attends has a great day in what is one of the best Non League local derbies in the country.
“Sadly not everyone will be able to get in and it is such a shame that our council do not support us and fulfil their legal landlord obligations determined in the lease.”
Details of the ticket arrangements will be announced in due course for the 30th November fixture.
