One person has died following an explosion at a house in Birmingham which completely destroyed one property and significantly damaged 3 adjoining properties.
West Midlands Police said there were reports of multiple casualties and a number of nearby vehicles were damaged in the blast. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said:
“Members of the Hazardous Area Response Team worked with firefighters to search the damaged property and sadly discovered one person. There was nothing that could be done and they were confirmed dead at the scene.
“Four further men were assessed by ambulance crews for minor conditions but were discharged at the scene."
A search and rescue dog and handler were mobilised and an additional search and rescue dog from Lancashire was requested. Video footage showed huge flames, damaged properties and a large pile of debris from a mid-terraced house.
Police were called to the street just after 8.30pm. A spokesperson said Dulwich Road and surrounding roads were closed and will be for a very long time.
