Chilling footage captures suspect hiding out before stabbing mother and son

This is the moment killer Aaron Barley crawls across the back garden where he hid for up to six hours - before coolly walking inside to stab a mother and son in their home.

Aaron Barley gets on his hands and knees out of sight to slide behind a garden wall outside the family home in extraordinary footage released by West Midlands Police.

Minutes later Peter Wilkinson is seen on the footage leaving the house from the rear to take the family's pet dog Mandy for her regular morning walk. After he leaves, Barley is seen to check the coast is clear before calmly climbing over a wall and moving towards the house to go inside at around 6.40am.

He let himself inside and crept upstairs where he slaughtered Tracey Wilkinson and her son Pierce. She was certified dead at the scene while the Redhill School pupil passed away shortly after reaching hospital.

He also stabbed Mr Wilkinson six times when he returned before leaving him to die. But Mr Wilkinson was able to alert police.

Barley, aged 24, pleaded guilty to the two murders when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday afternoon. Police released shocking footage which earlier shows Barley sneaking around the rear and front of the house hours before the knife attack.

Around 12.45am he is seen with his hood up in the back garden jumping down from a wall onto a patio before running into the darkness. Shortly after 1am he is picked up on footage crawling around on the driveway outside the family home.

After committing the stabbings, footage shows Barley jump into the family's Land Rover.

He drives off and dash-cam footage from the vehicle shows him weaving in and out of traffic, including on the wrong side of the road, before mounting the pavement and hitting a wall.
