Calls have been made for Jude Bellingham to be recognised in Dudley Borough for his achievements during the Euro 2024 tournament.
The Leader of the Labour group on Dudley Council, Cllr Pete Lowe, has said that the 21-year-old, who was born in Stourbridge and played for the town's junior team from the age of six, should have some sort of permanent recognition in the borough,
During the tournament, Bellingham scored twice - most notably with a bicycle kick during the match against Slovakia, helping England secure their place in the Quarter Final.
Speaking after Monday’s Full Council, where he stood to make the proposal, Councillor Lowe said: "Although we didn’t win [the tournament], Jude’s contribution during the competition has been immense.
"Like his father, he has raised the profile of Stourbridge and consequently, the profile of the Borough of Dudley, the capital of the Black Country, not just here in the UK but also on the Continent.
"On behalf of the citizens of this borough, we should like to honour him. He has made us proud."
Cross party discussions will now be held to make the necessary arrangements.
