Countdown to bonfire extravaganza

Preparations for one of the region’s biggest bonfire events are underway at Himley Hall and Park.

The family friendly event will light up the night sky on Saturday November 3 and a discount of up to 20 per cent is available when people book online in advance.

The evening will celebrate inspirational heroes and heroines from the world of entertainment and sport, as well as family members and people who are remarkable in their own way. #whoisyourhero? As a respectful commemoration of the end of World War I, 100 years on, a unique tribute will be paid to those soldiers who heroically battled and for those lost their lives.

The towering bonfire of 1,500 pallets will be the centrepiece and the 25-minute fireworks display, synchronised to music, will amaze crowds. Visitors can also enjoy a giant funfair, a night market from LSD Promotions, live entertainment and seasonal refreshments.

The advanced online ticketing means that people can take advantage of a discount of up to 20 per cent off the gate price. A standard adult ticket is £10, standard child and senior citizen £5.50, family (two adults, two children) £24.

For the first time ever the event will have a premium viewing area on the South Lawns near the hall with uninterrupted views of the fireworks, a private bar, street entertainers and seating. These premium tickets will be strictly limited and only available online. Cllr Keiran Casey, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

"The teams are working super hard to get everything in place for the Himley Hall and Park bonfire next month. We have a new fireworks company on board this year who are going to offer something very fresh and exciting and for the first time ever there will also be a night market.

"This year's hero theme gives us a chance to remember all those who have a special place in our hearts and importantly to pay tribute to all who went from our local communities to fight for our freedom during the First World War, marking 100 years since the end of the conflict this November, something that we must never forget."

Gates open at 4.30pm, the bonfire will be lit at 7.45pm and the fireworks display is at 8.30pm. Full details for tickets can be found on the Himley Hall website or Facebook page.
