A project aiming to capture the memories of people experiencing Dementia and their families in Tipton has been awarded a grant by a special Sandwell Council fund.

Tipton Memories has been awarded a town grant of £4,877. Facilitator Dr Brian Dakin will work with local people who were born and/or live in Tipton, recording their memories to create an oral history record.

Any documents and photographs that people might have will also be studied to build up individual and collective archives with the aim of publishing them in a book.

Tipton Memories is being run by BUDS - Better Understanding of Dementia for Sandwell - which has an office in Great Bridge Library, Great Bridge. Alison Pugh, director of BUDS, said:

"I am delighted that BUDS has received funding and support from Sandwell Council. The project has been a while in the planning and our aim is to bring people together to share and record  their memories at a variety of relaxed sessions during the coming months."

Councillor Ann Jarvis, town chair for Tipton, added: "I'd like to congratulate BUDS on being awarded a grant for this very worthwhile project which will help record people's memories of living and working in Tipton.

"It's so important that these memories are not lost so they can be shared with future generations."
