Dudley Council has unveiled the latest design visuals for the brand new Dudley Leisure Centre, set to open in 2021.
The new Flood Street centre will have a 25 metre swimming pool, large state of the art gym, five court sports hall, a number of studios to host activities such as spin classes, and an onsite café.
The council, working in partnership with Alliance Leisure are sharing the very latest design visuals as insight into their exciting project. Application for planning permission is expected to follow later in the year.
The centre will benefit from excellent public transport links through Metro and the nearby Interchange, and is part of wider major regeneration programme bringing over £1b investment to the town centre. Council leisure centres will be retained in each of the three existing areas of the borough and alongside the new build centre in Dudley, the multimillion pound leisure programme will also see refurbishment of Crystal and Halesowen leisure centres.
The council will use prudential borrowing to fund the investment in leisure centres. Subject to details yet to be confirmed, the total cost of work to all three centres is currently estimated to be in the region of £31 million. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
“We are very excited to showcase latest designs for our brand new Dudley Leisure Centre. With the 2022 Commonwealth games coming to the region and the Metro plans set to include a nearby stop, this really is the perfect time for us to get started on this programme.
“This investment will ensure good quality, modern, council run leisure facilities continue to be available to people throughout the borough.”
Throughout the development of the new site, the existing Dudley Leisure Centre will remain open. Options for the redevelopment of the Wellington Road site are yet to be considered.
People are invited to view proposals in more detail at the existing Dudley Leisure Centre on Wellington Road from August 30 until September 11.
Proposals will be next discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 11 September.
