The new Dudley Museum is looking for another dinosaur to join the family at its new home at Dudley Archives.
The dinosaur gallery in the new museum, which opened on 30 September, features some old favourites including the animatronic baby T-rex, colourful deinonychus and a life size replica T-rex skull. Organisers have left space in the gallery for a new addition to the family and they’re after suggestions from the public as to what it should be.
The new museum boasts a dedicated timeline for people to walk through the different periods of the borough’s history which will include geology collections, dinosaurs and the glass making history. An informal education space and dedicated larger education rooms will host visits by schools, colleges, families and interest groups. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for tourism, said:
“The dinosaurs were a hugely popular element of the old museum, but the old layout didn’t allow us to do the collections justice. With the new building at the Dudley Archives we’ve been able to create a dedicated room, packed with models, replicas and lots of fascinating material.
“We want suggestions from the public as to which dinosaur they’d like to see in the museum, it could be a velociraptor, ankylosaurus, compsognathus, whatever they like. They can email us or post #dudleydinosaur on facebook and twitter.”
