Figures have been released which show the cost to taxpayers for cleaning up after illegal invasions by travellers.

In 2014 and 2015 Dudley Council has spent nearly £40,000 on Hurst Green Park alone-not including how much has been spent this year.

This week the last group of travellers in Halesowen left the football pitches, known locally as Birdy’s but the council is counting the cost.

A council spokesperson admitted that the current system was not fit for purpose, and a more robust response was needed to the travellers.
