Dudley Council House will be flying the Royal Air Force ensign from the rooftop exactly one hundred days after the official 100th birthday.

During the morning over a thousand servicemen and women will take part in a parade on The Mall in London. Her Majesty The Queen, will be accompanied by The Prince of Wales, will present a new Queen's Colour to the Royal Air Force at a ceremony to mark its centenary at Buckingham Palace.

The afternoon will see a historic flypast of up to 100 aircraft, representing the RAF’s history, fly over Buckingham Palace.

Later this year the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA), together with Dudley Council, will hold a Battle of Britain service at St Thomas and St Luke’s Church (Top Church) followed by a parade through the town centre and the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Ednam Road, Dudley. Councillor Alan Taylor, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“The council has strong links with the armed forces and is proud to be displaying the RAF ensign. It is with great honour that this is the year that we will be giving the Royal Air Force the Freedom of the Borough during the Battle of Britain commemorations on September 16.

“I’m sure that residents from across the borough will come along and pay their respects and also congratulate the RAF on that day”.
