Former councillor's cancer treatment resumes

A former Wordsley councillor who was told his cancer drugs were being stopped midway through his treatment is celebrating after a change of heart.

Geoff Southall had been told the revolutionary new drug, Radium 223, was being withdrawn despite his consultant telling him he would benefit from having it.

But, after numerous media appearances, including on Black Country Radio, health bosses have now made a u-turn and told him he can continue the treatment.

An NHS spokesman said that there had been a misunderstanding in its own procedures as to how Mr. Southall became eligible for the drug in the first place.
