Nearly £50,000 has been earmarked for a new children’s play area in Pensnett.

Dudley Council has been working with the Friends of Pensnett Coppice to support their plans for a new children’s facility.

It has allocated £32,000 from section 106 funding to the group along with up to £17,000 from the council budgets to help fund the scheme.

The section 106 funding was originally earmarked for a play area at Pensnett Community Centre.

To ensure the section 106 funding is used within the appropriate timeframe, the council has moved the funding to the alternative Pensnett play area as plans are further advanced. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:

“This is fantastic news for children and families living in Pensnett. They will have a brand-new facility to enjoy on their doorstep.

“We recognise there is still local demand for a play area at the community centre and we are committed to making this happen and looking to source external funding.

“Ultimately, we’re putting section 106 money to good use before it expires and progressing a scheme which is ready to go, which I’m sure will be welcomed in the community.”

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, added: “The Friends of Pensnett Coppice have worked hard to develop the proposals and design an outdoor space for children.

“This will be a huge asset to the local community, which will be enjoyed for generations to come.

“I have reached out to our contacts at Pensnett Community Centre and look forward to meeting with them soon as we remain committed to supporting their plans for a new play area.”
