There’s been a new arrival at Dudley Zoo in the shape of a female giant anteater; the first in the zoo’s 79 year history.
11 month-old Romy arrived on Wednesday from Olomouc Zoo in the Czech Republic, and took her first steps in her new paddock yesterday morning.
Giant anteaters are found in Central and South America, and eat up to 35,000 ants and termites a day in the wild. However captive creatures eat a gruel mixture of meat, maize, fish oil and vitamins.
