Police have closed a section of Hagley Road in Stourbridge this afternoon after a suspicious package was found at an address in Danford Close.
Officers were called at 12.42pm after a box containing the suspect device was found at the address near to Old Swinford Hospital School. A cordon of 100 metres has been put in place until the contents of the box can be fully assessed. Hagley Road is closed at its junction with St Johns Road.
Specialist EOD officers are now at the location to make the assessment with residents in roughly a dozen neighbouring properties having been asked to leave their homes as a precaution.
West Midlands Police are working with Dudley Council to find temporary accommodation for those residents in the affected area and will also be arranging transport for them if required.
The public are asked to avoid the area at this time.
