Two friends from Halesowen have come together to support a Birmingham homeless centre over the festive season.
Sharan Roberts and Glenn Coley have decided to give clothes and food to a shelter in Hurst Street Birmingham this year, to help those who are less fortunate over the Christmas period. Speaking about her mission, Sharan said
"We wanted to show the true meaning of Christmas and help those who won't have one this year. I was asked to share a post on Facebook about the homeless and decided that wouldn't actually help them.
"I decided to start collecting things that may make their Christmas a little easier and they were all very grateful. Christmas is a time of giving so what better way to give to those who truly need it."
They reached out to local taxi company, Express Taxis, who are based in Halesowen as they needed help to transfer the goods to their destination. Initially, they asked bosses if they could have a discount, but we're pleasantly surprised to learn the taxi would be free. Annette Parsons, Assistant Manager, said:
"When they contacted us asking for a taxi and told us what they were doing, we were so touched by their generosity we gave them a taxi on the house. At Express we fully believe in giving back to the community.
"We've support many local organisations, from sponsoring football teams to sponsoring individuals on marathon runs. Our manager, Shaz Saleem, is a huge charity campaigner and we were really glad we could support Sharon and Glenn."
Amran Hussain, Charity Co-ordinator at the firm, added: "Christmas is a beautiful time, and what Sharon and Glenn have done is in the true spirit of Christmas - we're just grateful we could do our bit to support their cause.
"If any one else in the community is involved with a worthy cause, they can get in touch with us on 0121 501 2345"
