Home of Metal celebrates Black Sabbath's final world tour by asking fans to take selfies while watching the band at the Download Festival this weekend and to contribute to a new fan photo archive.
Home of Metal is now pleased to announce that they have received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting new project, to launch on Saturday 11 June at Download Festival.
Inspired by Black Sabbath’s Final world tour in 2016, Home of Metal will capture this unique moment from the perspective of the fans, working together to show the impact and legacy of the band, pioneers of the genre and to celebrate this unique, significant part of British music heritage.
Home Of Metal will explore how the music of four working class lads from Aston, Birmingham captured the hearts and minds of fans globally. A testament to their loyalty, the project will pay homage to the fan’s devotion and document the forty year relationship. Home Of Metal will work with fans, volunteers and the community to harness the power of social media, make portraits and capture and collate stories that mark this unique moment in history. The content collected will be used to develop an active online archive which will form part of a future exhibition to be launched in autumn 2017.
“An artist or band’s success can be measured by their relationship with the fans and the success of the ‘Home of Metal’ exhibition brought home just how dedicated and loyal ours are” explains Black Sabbath guitarist and founder Tony Iommi. “It’s always humbling to realise how you’ve touched people’s lives with your music, a project where fans are actively involved would be great.”
And now, calling all Black Sabbath fans, Home Of Metal needs you to make Metal history and asks as many of you as possible to photograph yourselves at Download Festival on Saturday 11 June. Show your appreciation and respect for the Godfathers of all heavy music, who will be headlining the mainstage at Download for the last time that evening and tag #homeofmetal and post via twitter and Instagram to contribute to a photo archive that aims to document one of the most dedicated and passionate fan bases in the world.
#homeofmetal to tag your memories of the day and capture a unique moment in history.
Home of Metal is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Laney Amplification, Live Nation and Team Rock
