The winning entries of a jubilee-themed design competition, which saw more than 500 entries submitted, are on display at the Red House Glass Cone.

The Dudley Council-run venue has been running the competition for the last ten weeks asking children to design a glass tile, which would be fit for the queen. More than 500 children entered the competition, and 20 designs were selected as the winners.

Each winning design has been recreated into two glass tiles, one for display at the cone and one for the winner to keep. They will remain on display this summer. People will be able to view the winning glass tiles along with all the competition entries at the cone this weekend when it hosts a three-day platinum jubilee themed event from Thursday June 2 to Saturday June 4.  

The venue has teamed up with author of The Queen’s Hat, Steve Antony, to run a Queen-themed trail around the site. It costs £4 per child to take part and each child will receive a commemorative jubilee medal and flag. 

There will also be face painting (for a small fee) and Black Country Brass will be performing at 12.30 on Saturday. The craft studios will be doing demonstrations and pop-up crafts and the Coffee House will be serving scones (while stocks last). Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

"The cone has been overwhelmed with the number of fantastic entries received for its jubilee themed competition and I'm delighted they are on display ahead of the event. Well done to all those who entered.

"It’s well-worth stopping by the cone this weekend to enjoy the celebrations and remember admission to the venue is free."

The event runs on Thursday and Friday from 10am to 3pm and on Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
