People are being given the chance to have their say on a raft of planned improvements in Brierley Hill as part of a £5 million project.

There are a number of improvements planned in the town, to improve connections to transport, access and the look and feel of the area.

It includes creating a link from the High Street to the planned Metro line and plans for more seating, planters, trees, parking and cycling facilities. The proposals also include enhancements to the area around the Brier Rose sculpture and the locally listed drinking fountain as well as St Mary’s Church.

Funding for the project has come from the government as part of the Brierley Hill High Street Heritage Action Zone and Future High Street Fund. Dudley Council is now looking for people’s views on the plans before work begins next year. Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

"These are very exciting proposals for Brierley Hill and I am sure will be welcomed by anyone who lives, works or visits there.

"It’s important we look at improving town centres to make them as welcoming and accessible as possible. People’s views are key to that and I urge people to take the time to fill in the short questionnaire."

The first phase of the plans are now complete and included major work on the town’s war memorial. The latest plans for the High Street are on display in the town’s library in High Street throughout November, where people can pick up a copy of the consultation.

There are also copies available at Brierley Hill Neighbourhood Learning Centre and it is also available online at regeneratingdudley.org.uk.

Closing date for comments is Monday November 28.
