The Mayor of Dudley met with one of her charities to discuss vital fundraising for families fighting cancer.

In Dudley alone 1,910 people are diagnosed with cancer every year. There are an estimated 13,400 people living with or beyond cancer which is expected to rise to more than 19,000 by 2030.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides vital help for people living with cancer and their families. At a meeting last week, the Mayor discussed charity fundraising opportunities throughout the year with Megan Hayman Tansley, the charity’s relationship fundraising manager. Councillor Sue Greenaway, Mayor of Dudley, said:

"It was lovely to meet Megan and talk about the incredible work the charity does. Like many others, my family has had experience of cancer which is why I wanted to support Macmillan.

"I’m really looking forward to helping Macmillan for the rest of my Mayoral year and would encourage people to help as much as they can."

Megan Hayman Tansley, the Relationship Fundraising Manager at Macmillan, added: "It was lovely to meet the Mayor and we are very grateful for her support this year.

"The number of people diagnosed with cancer continues to grow every year meaning more people need our help. We know 83 per cent of those people will face a financial impact and are turning to us for financial help – a huge focus for Macmillan this year."

The Mayor has chosen to support three charities this year – Macmillan Cancer Support, Santa’s Black Country Toy Appeal and Tough Enough which helps to tackle suicide.
