The Mayor of Dudley raised nearly £24,000 for charity during his term in office last year, it has been revealed.

The £23,930.50 raised will be split equally between Councillor David Stanley’s two chosen charities for 2019/20 - Macmillan Cancer Support and The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and Black Country.

The Mayor is continuing in office this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and is raising money for three different charities. They are Black Country Foodbank, St John Ambulance and Victim Support, Dudley. Councillor David Stanley, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“It is disappointing that we were unable to put on the Mayor’s Ball and Civic Awards this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, as that would have pushed the final figure closer to the £30,000 mark.

“Nevertheless, I am delighted to have helped raise such a significant amount which will make a real difference for two very worthy charities.

“I would like to thank people for their generosity, especially during such a difficult time when money has been tight for a lot of people and jobs have been on the line.

“It has been a real honour being the first citizen of the borough and having the pleasure of going out and meeting so many wonderful people. I look forward to continuing in the role for 2020/21 and supporting three new charities.”
