Mayors charity appeal receives donation from Age Concern

Age Concern Stourbridge and Halesowen, the charity helping and supporting older people in the area has said a big thank you to the Mayor of Dudley.

Attending November’s annual general meeting at the charity’s Elton Centre building, Cllr Hilary Bills was surprised to be handed a cheque for £100.

The Mayor had already praised the good work Age Concern undertakes and stated how volunteers are priceless, thanking those who give up their own free time to help individuals - particularly those who may be lonely or vulnerable.

This year’s annual general meeting proved a great success with attendance by users, volunteers and stakeholders.  Attendees were able to hear about this year’s performance, plans for the future and had the opportunity to meet with volunteers, staff and trustees.

2025 will see the local charity celebrating 50 year’s of existence and a schedule of events is currently under development.

David Harbach, chair of trustees said: “A great big thank you goes out to everyone involved with Age Concern Stourbridge & Halesowen - it is the strength of our team which has carried us forward over the past year.

"Simply put, we want to ensure every older person has access to the care, the services, and the respect they deserve. No matter how tough the times may get; we will not falter in our commitment to this cause and look forward to next year’s AGM.

“We wanted to take the opportunity of our AGM to contribute towards the Mayor’s Charities as they go hand in hand with our own ethos.  Our donation may not be the largest in the world, but during this cost of living crisis every penny counts - something our own charity truly understands.”

The charity’s ultimate aim is to ensure users are able to continue to live their lives to the full by helping them to remain active, learn new things, receive advice and support, make new friends and enjoy trips out with like minded individuals.
