Dudley North MP Ian Austin is calling on West Midlands police to seize and crush motorbikes being used by anti-social yobs on public parks in Dudley.
He is also calling on the government to give West Midlands Police the resources they need to tackle criminals using off-road motorbikes and mopeds in Dudley.
Austin spoke out after being contacted by residents having to put up with noise, nuisance and danger caused by the anti-social and illegal use of motorbikes in the area.
Austin has called on the government to clarify that the Police are allowed to pursue bikes and mopeds. Failure of the Government to do this has put officers in difficult positions when perusing perpetrators. He also wants more funding available to local police forces to tackle the problem which affects so many people across Dudley. Mr Austin said:
"I think it is totally unacceptable that local residents’ lives are being blighted by the disturbance this is causing. I want the police have the resources to tackle this behaviour, identify the perpetrators, prosecute them and seize their bikes.
"Officers also need the power to pursue bikes, but ministers have been dragging their feet on clarifying the law. I will be meeting with the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, to discuss the issue and work on solutions to solve the problems.
“It’s about time the Government gave them the resources and powers they need to keep our community safe”.
