MP gets stuck in to raise awareness of volunteers

Kingswinford and South Staffordshire MP, Mike Wood has used his annual Volunteering Week to get involved with a range of volunteering activities across the constituency.

In the first half of this years’ Volunteering Week, Mr Wood helped with site maintenance at the Edward Marsh Centre in Kinver and spent some time helping to arrange family support packages at Brierley Hill Baby Bank in Kingswinford.

He also returned to Russells Hall Hospital to join the small army of hospital volunteers who carry out a wide range of tasks to support patients and staff.

Jane Goldsmith, Volunteers’ Co-ordinator at Russells Hall Hospital said: “We really appreciate Mike coming to lend a hand each year.

“Once again he got to see and get involved with the wide range of tasks our brilliant volunteers help with.”

Andy Sheppard, Volunteer Trustee at the Edward Marsh Centre in Kinver said: “It was great to have our local MP supporting us and spending time with our volunteers.

“As well as our main building, we have 11 acres to look after, so Mike got a good flavour of the huge range of jobs it takes to look after the site.

“We’re always keen to hear from new people who might be able to spare some time and get involved.”

For the second half of the week, the MP gave his support in Codsall at both the local Warm Hub and Compton Care charity shop, as well as getting stuck in helping green fingeredvolunteers in the Friends of Wombrook group in Wombourneand the Wall Heath in Bloom volunteers in Wall Heath.

Mike said: “Volunteers make an enormous contribution in all sorts of ways across our communities all year round. It was great to spend some time with some of those fantastic volunteers during my annual volunteering week.

“For anyone who may have some spare time and feel they could help, I really would encourage them to get involved with any of these organisations, or any others across the constituency, to see how you can play a part with one of these brilliant volunteer teams.”
