A brand-new pirate ship has ‘set sail’ at Brook Primary School in Wordsley thanks to two years’ of fundraising efforts by pupils, staff and families.

After the old pirate ship, which was a firm favourite of the pupils, began to fall apart, the school council decided that getting a replacement should be the focus of their fundraising.   

Two years later, after several clown shows, the Brook Fireworks, Christmas Fayres, Summer Fayres and other events, the school managed to raise enough funds to purchase the new ship. 

The school council also played a key role in designing the ship at the planning stage. To launch the ship, local councillors Adam Davies and Wayne Little joined staff, children and school governors for an official unveiling that saw headteacher Mrs Fellows launch the ship with cheers from the crowds of children. 

Mrs Marie Fellows, Headteacher at the school, said: “We're so proud and grateful to all the families who have helped to raise the money to buy the Brook Bounty.” 

Cllr Adam Davies said: “All the staff, pupils and families who helped to fundraise for this brilliant new pirate ship should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

"It was brilliant to see the ship Captain, Mrs Fellows, launch the ship to such enthusiasm from the children, and we hope they have many happy hours playing on the Brook Bounty for years to come.” 

The launch of the ship also tied in with the school’s celebrations of 40 years of Comic Relief, with children and staff dressing up with a ‘back to the 80s’ theme.
