Work on a new short stay pay and display car park in Dudley is set to start on this week.
Dudley Council has appointed Coleman & Co to carry out the first stage of work to create a new car park in Tower Street.
The contract covers the demolition of The Mahoe Centre which will increase land space for the new 90 space car park. A contract will also be let shortly for the laying of the new car park.
As well as creating an important new parking facility, the works will also improve the street scene of Tower Street by opening up views to Baylies’s Hall and to Dudley Castle.
The car park will be open to the public in the run up to the Christmas shopping season later this year.
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development said:
“I am pleased we have been able to award this contract to carry out the demolition works and begin the process of creating 90 car parking spaces in Dudley Town Centre. This is good for the business community and for our shoppers, and also demonstrates our commitment to continuing the programme of regeneration in the town centre.”
