Pygmy marmoset arrives at Dudley Zoo

A female pygmy marmoset has arrived at Dudley Zoo to form a new breeding group.

Four-year-old Chewie arrived from Banham Zoo and has been paired with five-year-old male, Kingston, from the previous bachelor group.

The zoo currently only has the two pygmy marmosets after the remaining males from their last breeding group relocated to another UK collection. Upper Primates Section Leader, Pat Stevens, said:

“Chewie and Kingston have already settled in well together and we’re hoping we can replicate the success we’ve had with previous breeding pairs as we look to build up a new group.”

You can find the pygmy marmosets, who are the world’s smallest primate species, in the Small Primate House.
