Sandwell residents can save on energy

Big Community Switch gives Sandwell residents more control over their energy costs, helping households find better energy deals and alleviating financial burdens if they register before Monday 9 December.

More than 29,000 UK households have registered interest in a collective energy switching scheme to save money on energy bills, and there is still time for Sandwell residents to join them. Working in collaboration with Sandwell Council, Big Community Switch empowers residents by providing guidance and support to simplify the energy-switching process.

Under the scheme, participating residents in Sandwell can benefit from the cheapest energy tariff on the market for a 12-month fixed rate. Plus, the tariff offers 100% renewable electricity, underscoring the initiative’s commitment to sustainability. With continuing uncertainty in the energy market, the scheme provides a practical solution to ease the financial burden on households by securing competitive tariffs with trusted suppliers, giving residents of Sandwell more control over their energy costs.

Switching energy suppliers can be a challenging task, especially in the current market conditions, and the initiative ensures that households have access to competitive deals through a hassle-free process. Suppliers compete for the opportunity to offer households the lowest energy tariff, and there’s no need to compare different tariffs as everyone registered receives a personal offer. Since 2012, Big Community Switch has more than 2.1 million people register their interest in switching energy contracts through the schemes.

George Frost, UK Country Manager at iChoosr, which helps accelerate the energy transition by engaging people with sustainable products and services, said: “Big Community Switch has a clear mission: to help households easily find better energy deals and alleviate the financial burden of high energy costs.

"Now is the perfect time for residents to take action, with the scheme providing access to the cheapest energy tariff on the market for a 12-month fixed rate.

"Whether unhappy with a current provider or waiting for a more stable market, Big Community Switch is here to assist, helping manage energy costs more effectively.”

The Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, added: “As a council we want to do everything we can to help our residents save money while remaining warm.

"By registering for this service our residents get access to a cheaper energy rate which they can either accept or not. Sandwell also offers a wide range of support services and money-saving tips on our Support Sandwell website at sandwell.gov.uk/supportingsandwell.”
