Police in Birmingham have charged six men in connection with disorder which saw fireworks being launched in the city centre.

Fireworks were dangerously being set off towards people, buildings and police officers in the Bagot Street and Staniforth Street area on Tuesday evening. Officers detained a number of people and then stopped two cars nearby which were suspected of being linked to the disorder. Inside one vehicle they recovered a knife and the other fireworks.

Sheryar Khan, aged 21; Iqram Khan, 22 and Zain Mahmood, 24 have all been charged with causing a public nuisance and possession of an offensive weapon. George Dandison, Ulrich Angwe and Ajay Penfold, all aged 19, have also been charged with public nuisance. They were remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday.

Three other people have been bailed while enquiries continue.

Fortunately no-one was seriously injured during the disorder, and police will continue to have a visible presence of officers in and around the area over the coming days.

Anyone with information can contact officers via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website, or by calling 101.
