A son has been jailed for six years and eight months after attacking and killing his mother at their family home in Wolverhampton.
Matthew Page kicked, punched and struck 68-year-old Mary with a cabinet before going to bed on 31 January this year.
The following day he confided in a relative and handed himself into police. Officers went to the address and found Mrs Page in her bedroom with serious head injuries.
The van driver pleaded guilty to the manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility of Mrs Page in James Street, Bilston, and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from the force’s homicide unit, said:
"This is a tragic case that has had a devastating effect on all of those involved in Mary's life. Page will lose his freedom for a number of years, but his family will bear the consequences of his actions for a lifetime."
