A speeding driver who killed a mother and injured her 11-year-old daughter after ploughing into their car in Dudley has been jailed for six years.
Tyler Kendall fled the scene and left 30-year-old Vikki Jones to die after smashing into her vehicle in Wood Road, Lower Gornal, at around 10.10pm on 22 September last year.
He was caught on CCTV hitting speeds of up to 75mph in his BMW as he raced around the streets prior to the collision. Kendall ran off after the crash - which left the young girl with serious arm injuries - before calling police a few hours later to hand himself in.
The 22-year-old admitted causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury and failing to stop at the scene of accident at an earlier court hearing.
Kendall, of Whitebeam Close, Lower Gornal, was today jailed for a total of six years at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said:
"A mother tragically lost her life as a result of this catastrophic collision and her family are still living with the consequences now.
"There was a prolonged period in the build up to the crash where Kendall was driving at motorway speeds; and far too dangerous for residential streets. Sadly his behaviour and actions really were an accident waiting to happen.
"Rather than see if he could do anything to help Vikki Jones and her daughter he ran from the scene in a coward's act before his conscience finally got the better of him and he called police hours later.
"Our thoughts remain with Vikki's family and we only hope this custodial sentence will give them some comfort during what has been a terribly distressing time."
