Dudley Private Hire & Taxi Association says a taxi driver who was found with serious head injuries in Brierley Hill at the weekend is in a “very critical” condition.

The man, who is 60 but has not yet been named, was rushed to hospital on Sunday night after being found in Bell Street South with a fractured skull.

Police say they don’t yet know how he sustained his injuries and have launched an investigation.

A taxi association spokesman said unconfirmed reports suggested that the driver, who is employed by Newline Taxis, had been set upon by a group of young men.
