There are just a handful of spaces left for traders and performers at the Red House Glass Cone’s Teenage Market this July.
The Dudley Council-run venue is giving young traders and buskers a chance to showcase their creative products and talents for free. It’s a great way for young people to earn some money from their creative endeavours, especially useful before the long summer break.
The Teenage Market is a growing nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport as a way to support local young people and transform town centres. Its success has been labeled innovative and inspiring by retail guru Mary Portas.
The energy, diversity and vibrancy of the young people who take part in Teenage Markets is helping to bring a fresh energy to high streets, town centres and market areas across the country.
Dudley held its first ever Teenage Market in October 2015 with more than 30 stalls and a range of performers taking over Stone Street Square for the day. Stalls included clothing, jewellery, cupcakes, handicrafts and more.
Getting involved is easy. Trader and performers need to create a profile on the Teenage Market website and then apply to take part in the Red House Glass Cone’s Teenage Market on Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July. Participants can opt to take part in one or both days.
After applying, organisers will contact potential participants to let them know if they’ve been allocated a free stall or performance slot. Cllr Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development said:
“The Teenage Market was a huge hit when it came to Dudley and I think that the Red House Glass Cone is an ideal venue for this innovative project. The cone is already a hub for creative industries and has hosted a range of markets and music events over the years.
“The Teenage Market is a great opportunity for young people to get their businesses off the ground and showcase their creative talentsand develop self-confidence and their interpersonal skills. I’m sure that this event will be a great success with traders, performers and visitors.”
Support local young traders and performers by visiting the Red House Glass Cone Teenage Market between 10am - 4pm on Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July 2016.
