West Midlands Mayor visits Walsall to talk regeneration

Last week Mayor of the West Midlands Richard Parker was welcomed by Walsall Council to discuss Walsall’s regeneration plans.

The Mayor was met by Associate Leader Councillor Adrian Andrew for a tour of several key regeneration sites across the Borough. This visit was an important opportunity to showcase the progress that has been made with Walsall’s £1.5 billion programme of investment and to share the broader aspirations for the future of Walsall.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader of Walsall Council, said: “It was a pleasure to show the Mayor around the borough and discuss our vision for Walsall, our achievements so far and the challenges we face.

“It gave us an opportunity to discuss how we can collaborate more closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, with the support of the Mayor, to achieve the council’s vision for growth, development, and improved infrastructure in the area, as well as how these plans align with regional objectives and how the combined authority’s resources and partnerships could help accelerate progress.”

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, added: "As we work to regenerate Walsall, key projects like the new Willenhall and Darlaston railway stations, the SPARK business park, and new housing developments will make a real positive impact on communities.

“With our council partners we're looking for even more opportunities to transform dirty and disused land into homes for families and commercial spaces that support local businesses and create jobs.”

Following a tour of some of the borough’s key development areas, The Mayor returned to Walsall Civic Centre and hosted a question-and-answer session with council members.

Members were able to ask questions and get to understand the Mayor’s priorities, discussing the critical role of regeneration in boosting Walsall’s local economy, creating jobs, and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the borough.
