West Mids Fire Chief Tackles Mountain Climb

Station Commander, Richard Stanton, from Sutton Coldfield and Erdington Fire Station will attempt to climb Kilimanjaro for charity.

Mr Stanton flies out to Tanzania, with a team of 17 other's, to tackle the peak which stands just under 6,000 meters tall.

The trek is in aid of a charity called 'Georgie's Gift', which Richard is a patron of. It was set up after his best friend tragically lost his daughter to Meningitis in February 2015 at just 23 months old. It continues to raise funds to support families, hospitals and the fight against Meningitis. Mr Stanton said:

"I am doing this for a charity very close to my heart, setup after my best friend lost his daughter in 2015.

"Our aim is to raise £80,000 for the charity and to date we have raised approximately £77,000 as part of this appeal."

If you'd like to donate to support the groups efforts, you can visit their donation page at totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/richskilimanjarochallenge2016.
